Kallmet and Vlosh: Two Albanian Wines to Try at Krahu i Shqiponjës

Albania grows two red grapes worth crossing a border for: Kallmet from Lezhë in the north, and Vlosh from the hills above Vlorë. Krahu i Shqiponjës carries both by the glass all summer.
Kallmet drinks like a lighter Nebbiolo - sun-baked cherry, dried herbs, a whisper of black tea. It handles our wood-fired lamb and the older cheeses on the antipasto board.
Vlosh is a mineral, salty red that behaves almost like a coastal Grenache. Try it with our grilled octopus or the seafood risotto - it lifts both without stepping on the fish.
Ask your server for a taste of either. Our sommelier is happy to pour a small measure so you can choose before committing to a bottle.
