10 min south of Sarandë

Pulëbardha Beach

Pebble cove, clear water, quiet mornings

Pulëbardha (‘the seagull’) is the closest swimmable cove to town — a small pebble beach with two family-run beach clubs and water so clear you can count the fish. Sunbeds are cheap, snorkeling is genuinely good, and it never gets as loud as Ksamil.

Local tip — Come before 11am for a front-row bed. Take a taxi from town for around 800–1000 lek.

15 min south

Mirror Beach (Plazhi i Pasqyrave)

Crescent bay, calm, cinematic sunsets

A shallow crescent bay tucked below the coastal road. The water sits still enough at dusk to mirror the cliffs, which is where the name comes from. Two restaurants share the sand; both serve grilled fish and cold rakia.

Local tip — The northern half stays in shade until noon — good for kids and pale visitors.

20 min south

The Ksamil Islets

Iconic, turquoise, swim-to islands

The postcard shot of the Albanian Riviera: three small islands about 50–100 metres offshore, ringed by Caribbean-blue water. You can swim to the closest two, or rent a kayak. The village of Ksamil itself is busy — the beaches south of the harbour are prettier and less crowded.

Local tip — Skip July and August weekends. Late June and early September are the sweet spot.

25 min south, past Ksamil

Manastiri Beach

Wilder, walk-in, no crowds

A ten-minute walk down a dirt track brings you to a stretch of white pebbles below the old monastery of Ksamil. No music, no beach clubs — bring water and a hat. The reef drops off fast; snorkelers love it.

Local tip — Wear reef shoes. The pebbles are sharp underfoot.

35 min north

Krorëz Beach

Remote, dramatic, day-trip worthy

A hidden bay reached by a rough 4 km track off the SH8 coastal road. Turquoise water, a single seasonal shack for drinks, and cliffs on both sides. The drive is not for a low car; take a 4×4 or park at the top and walk the last kilometer.

Local tip — Go on a weekday. Two dozen people counts as busy here.

Gjipe Beach

Canyon hike, festival energy, wild swim

The most spectacular beach on the Riviera — reached by hiking 25 minutes down a canyon or by boat from Himarë. White sand, huge cliffs, one beach bar. Worth the day trip if you have a car and half a tank of adventure.

Local tip — Bring cash. There is no ATM anywhere near the trailhead.

In town, walking distance

Manastir / Monastery Beach, Sarandë town

City beach, sunset promenade

If you only have an hour, the town beach in front of the promenade does the job — flat, sandy, family-friendly. Not the most beautiful water in the region, but the sunset over the harbour is a real one.

Local tip — Walk five minutes north along the rail and you’ll be standing outside Krahu i Shqiponjës — a good spot to end the day with grilled fish and a spritz.

FAQ

Sarandë beaches — frequently asked questions

Which is the best beach in Sarandë?
For most first-time visitors, Pulëbardha Beach is the best pick — it's ten minutes south of Sarandë, has clear turquoise water, and stays quieter than Ksamil. If you have a full day, the Ksamil islets are the postcard shot of the Albanian Riviera.
How far is Ksamil from Sarandë?
Ksamil is about 17 km south of Sarandë, roughly a 20-minute drive along the coastal road. Taxis from Sarandë town cost around 1500–2000 lek one way, and buses run every 30 minutes in summer.
When is the best time to visit the beaches near Sarandë?
Late June and early September are the sweet spot — warm sea, long daylight, and none of the July–August crowds. Water stays swimmable from mid-May through mid-October.
Are the beaches in Sarandë sandy or pebbly?
Most beaches on the Sarandë coast are fine pebbles or a mix of pebble and sand. The town beach and parts of Ksamil have imported sand; Pulëbardha, Mirror Beach and Manastiri are pebble coves. Reef shoes are a good idea.
Do I need a car to visit the beaches around Sarandë?
No — Pulëbardha, Mirror Beach, the Ksamil islets and the town beach are all reachable by taxi or local bus. A car (ideally a small SUV) only becomes essential for Krorëz and Gjipe, which sit at the end of rough tracks.
Where can we eat after a day at the beach?
